To enhance the educational quality of the School, broaden the international academic horizons of faculty and students, cultivate students' innovative thinking and scholarly competence, and support the School's mission of international talent development, the School of Materials Science and Engineering hosted the MSE Forum – Session 27 & Materials Journey International Forum – Session 4 on the morning of April 20, 2026, at Room 220 of the Materials Science Building.
The forum featured a distinguished invited speaker, Professor Ding Jun, a prominent faculty member in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the National University of Singapore, a council member of the Materials Research Society of Singapore, and an internationally renowned expert in the field of materials science. Professor Ding's research primarily focuses on the development of novel materials and advanced manufacturing technologies, and he has authored over 500 publications in prestigious international journals including Nature Materials.
Under the title Construction of Lightweight High-Strength SiOC Materials via Photopolymerization 3D Printing, Professor Ding systematically presented the integration of photopolymerization-based 3D printing techniques with novel materials design strategies to fabricate structurally intact, defect-free SiOC materials. He demonstrated how the resulting three-dimensional architectures achieve exceptional mechanical strength while maintaining low density. Furthermore, Professor Ding provided an in-depth discussion on the broad application prospects of this material across multiple cutting-edge research frontiers.
This lecture significantly broadened the academic horizons of the attending students and deepened their understanding of the state-of-the-art research progress and advanced experimental techniques in photopolymerization 3D printing. It offered valuable insights and inspiration for students pursuing future careers in areas such as photopolymerization 3D printing, novel materials design, and advanced manufacturing. In addition, the lecture further strengthened the School's academic exchanges with internationally renowned scholars, cultivated a vibrant international academic atmosphere, and contributed positively to enhancing the School's research capacity and talent development quality.
