To stimulate innovative thinking and research enthusiasm among faculty and students, the School of Materials Science and Engineering hosted the MSE Forum – Session 26 on April 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM in Room 708 of the Materials Science Building. The forum featured a distinguished invited speaker, Professor Wang Leyun, a researcher and doctoral supervisor from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Professor Wang is a recipient of the Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Outstanding Talent Program, the Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program, the Humboldt Research Fellowship (Germany), and a Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials. He has also been recognized as a World’s Top 2% Scientist by Elsevier. During his presentation, Professor Wang systematically introduced his research on the deformation mechanisms and plasticity regulation of hexagonal metals, along with key representative achievements. In particular, he elaborated on the development of a multi-scale characterization technique based on synchrotron radiation diffraction, which enabled the quantitative assessment of the contributions of various slip systems to the plastic deformation of hexagonal metals. Building on these findings, he successfully developed high-plasticity magnesium alloy profiles and additively manufactured titanium alloys, thereby offering new theoretical foundations and materials design pathways for achieving enhanced performance in hexagonal metals.
This lecture significantly broadened the academic horizons of the attending students, deepening their understanding of cutting-edge research progress and advanced experimental techniques in the deformation mechanisms and plasticity design of hexagonal metals. It provided important insights and inspiration for students pursuing future research and careers in hexagonal metals such as magnesium and titanium alloys. Moreover, the lecture further strengthened the School’s academic exchanges with internationally renowned scholars, cultivated a vibrant international academic atmosphere, and contributed positively to enhancing the School’s research capacity and talent development quality.
