China-Russia-Ukraine International Welding Technology R&D Center
The China-Russia-Ukraine International Welding Technology R&D Center, established in 2007, was among the first batch of international cooperation bases certified by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The center is committed to collaborating with renowned institutions of significant international influence in Russia, Ukraine, and other CIS countries, such as the Paton Welding Institute in Ukraine. Through cooperative approaches including “academic exchanges via mutual expert visits,” “jointly tackling specific technical challenges,” and “introducing advanced technologies and equipment,” it conducts research in fundamental studies, equipment development, process innovation, and technology application. The Chinese side has absorbed substantial advanced welding technologies and expertise from its international partners.
Since its establishment in 2007, the Center has secured nearly 20 international science and technology cooperation and technology-equipment introduction projects funded by national ministries and commissions, achieving a number of research outcomes. For instance, it broke through the technical bottleneck in welding pure niobium superconducting cavities, making China the third country in the world to possess such cavities. The jointly developed laser speckle stress measurement system was confirmed by the International Institute of Welding (IIW) to have achieved internationally leading detection accuracy. Currently, the cooperation base has evolved from initially introducing single technologies, to engaging in single-technology cooperation and joint R&D, and has now progressed to strategic international scientific and technological innovation collaboration. In the 2016 evaluation of 549 international cooperation bases nationwide, it was rated as an Outstanding National International Science and Technology Cooperation Base (only 31 received this award) and was commended by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
