Leveraging the National International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of the “China-Russia-Ukraine International Welding Technology R&D Center” at Harbin Institute of Technology and jointly applying with the Sino-Ukrainian Welding Institute of the Guangdong Academy of Sciences, the China-Ukraine Joint Laboratory for Materials Joining and Advanced Manufacturing under the Belt and Road Initiative was approved in 2020. The laboratory conducts joint research with leading institutions in Russia, Ukraine, and other developed countries including those in Europe, America, Japan, and South Korea, focusing on fundamental research, equipment development, process innovation, and technology application. Centered on major national needs and strategic development goals, it undertakes significant national tasks, establishing a research platform that emphasizes both international and domestic collaboration, balances fundamental and applied research, and enhances China’s innovation capacity and international influence in the fields of welding and advanced manufacturing.
Since 2020, it has extensively engaged in international scientific and technological cooperation with countries including Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, and Germany. It has organized, hosted, and co-organized over 20 forums, international conferences, or seminars, carried out more than 10 international science and technology cooperation projects, and invited a total of over 100 foreign experts for online and offline lectures and academic exchanges. Additionally, it has organized more than 10 overseas exchange visits, introduced over 10 high-level young talents from abroad, and received 3 internationally authoritative awards, 2 national-level awards, and 18 ministerial or provincial-level awards. The laboratory has been granted 289 invention patents (including 2 U.S. patents and 2 Japanese patents), published 17 monographs and more than 700 papers, and achieved 8 technology transfer and commercialization projects. It has played an active role in conducting international exchange activities, introducing technologies for project cooperation, cultivating international joint laboratories, and jointly training talent.
