Inaugural Launch of Advanced Materials Joining (AMJ) and the First International Youth Forum on Advanced Materials Joining Concluded Successfully

On October 18–19, 2025, the Inaugural Launch of Advanced Materials Joining (AMJ) and the First International Youth Forum on Advanced Materials Joining were successfully held at the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) Zhengzhou Research Institute. Prior to the event, Wei AN, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Zhengzhou Municipal Committee, paid a courtesy call on the attending academicians and experts.

Sponsored by Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), co-supported by HIT Zhengzhou Research Institute, and co-published in partnership with Springer Nature Group, Advanced Materials Joining was selected for the High-Starting-Point New Journal Project (Phase II) under China's Scientific Journal Excellence Action Plan in 2024. The journal focuses on cutting-edge and key technologies such as welding and joining interface science, intelligent welding, additive manufacturing, and electronic packaging. It is dedicated to laying solid academic foundations for China's efforts to attain leadership in strategic sectors like aerospace and integrated circuits, while striving to establish itself as a world-class international academic platform in the field of materials joining.

The launch ceremony was chaired by Professor Tiesong LIN, Executive Director of the State Key Laboratory of Precision Welding and Joining for Materials and Structures. The attendees comprised leaders from relevant departments of Henan Province, experts and scholars from prestigious universities and research institutions, representatives from HIT's Journal Center, School of Materials Science and Engineering, and State Key Laboratory of Precision Welding and Joining for Materials and Structures, as well as faculty and student representatives from HIT Zhengzhou Research Institute

Distinguished guests delivered keynote speeches at the ceremony, including Jian LIU, Vice President of HIT; Yu ZHOU, Editor-in-Chief of AMJ; and Ms. Xian LI, China Publishing Director of Springer Nature Group. Jianqiu ZHUANG, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Zhengzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Zhengzhou, alongside representatives from relevant government departments and experts in materials science and aerospace fields, joined the distinguished guests to officially launch the new journal.

In his speech, Vice President Jian LIU emphasized that as a century-old institution closely tied to the nation's development trajectory, HIT has nurtured countless outstanding talents and undertaken numerous key national projects. With decades of focused efforts in materials science and engineering, the university has long maintained a leading position in advanced materials joining technology research. The establishment of Advanced Materials Joining stands as a pivotal initiative for HIT to leverage its disciplinary advantages to contribute to global academic progress. He expressed hope that the journal will serve as a transnational and interdisciplinary bridge, aggregating innovative wisdom worldwide and positioning advanced materials joining technologies as a key driver of industrial upgrading and the cultivation of new quality productive forces.

Attending academicians and experts noted in their speeches that Advanced Materials Joining will drive quality improvement and upgrading in key core technology fields through academic innovation, playing a crucial role in advancing the discipline. They earnestly encouraged outstanding experts and scholars worldwide to join the journal and jointly build a vibrant academic community with strong international influence. During the inaugural ceremony, appointment certificates were awarded to the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editors, Editorial Board Members, and Advisory Committee Members.

Following the launch ceremony, the journal's Editorial Board Meeting and the First International Youth Forum on Advanced Materials Joining were held. Keynote speeches were delivered by Professor Yanhong TIAN from HIT as well as experts and scholars from Germany, Singapore, and China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Five young scholars also gave invited presentations. Centered around the theme Precision Joining, Intelligent Integration, participants conducted in-depth academic exchanges and discussions.
