From October 12 to 15, 2026, the China-Russia Symposium on Advanced Materials and Technologies concluded successfully at Harbin Institute of Technology. Hosted by the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology, the event brought delegations from 9 Russian universities, including Pacific National University, SaintPetersburg State University, and Bauman Moscow State Technical University to China. It focused on cutting-edge research directions and built an in-depth academic exchange platform for Chinese and Russian universities.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Song Xiaoguo, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, HIT, delivered a welcome address. He extended a warm welcome to the Russian expert delegation and reviewed the long-standing and stable cooperation between the School of Materials Science and Engineering of HIT and multiple Russian universities. Professor A. Abuzov, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Pacific National University of Russia, spoke on behalf of the Russian delegation. He spoke highly of the scientific research achievements accumulated through years of bilateral cooperation and expressed expectations for further deepening joint talent training and collaborative scientificresearch projects.

The symposium featured plenary keynote lectures, parallel forum invited reports, and closed-door seminars. Presentations covered multiple research areas, including mechanical behaviour of materials, advanced material processing, and resource recycling. Participating experts held in-depth discussions on key scientific issues, exchanged research ideas, and explored potential cooperation opportunities. Thirty-two Russian experts, including Academician Y. Petrov, engaged in face-to-face exchanges with Chinese teachers and students, presenting the latest research progress from both sides.

Participating experts noted that China and Russia each possess distinctive strengths in advancedmaterials research. Sustained bilateral academic exchanges help drive the coordinated advancement of fundamentalresearch innovation and engineeringtechnology development. Going forward, the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology will maintain regular communication with partner universities in Russia, continuously expand the scope and depth of cooperation, boost the international development of academic disciplines, and contribute to overall Sino-Russian scientific andtechnological cooperation.
