To further strengthen the faculty workforce, pool the intellectual contributions of early-career academics, and facilitate their professional growth, the School of Materials Science and Engineering convened a Young Faculty Symposium on June 24. The School’s leadership team attended the meeting, which was chaired by Dean Professor Song Xiaoguo.
At the symposium, young faculty members, drawing on their individual experiences, expressed their appreciation for the supportive policies and measures implemented by the university and the School, while also putting forward constructive suggestions for the School’s development and articulating their specific needs for career advancement. Members of the School’s leadership team provided on-site responses and feedback to the questions and proposals raised, and explicitly affirmed that the School would further refine its support mechanisms by offering more targeted assistance in areas such as expert mentoring, grant and award applications, and teaching skills training, so as to provide comprehensive support for the professional development of its junior faculty.
In his concluding remarks, Dean Song Xiaoguo underscored that the development of both the university and the School is intrinsically linked to the growth of its young faculty. He reiterated the School’s unwavering commitment to a proactive service-oriented approach, and its continued efforts in building research platforms, securing essential resources, and charting career trajectories, with the goal of accelerating the academic advancement of early-career researchers. He encouraged young faculty members to align their research endeavors with national strategic priorities, actively integrate into the broader development landscape of the university and the School, and cultivate a strong sense of responsibility and mission. He urged them to clearly define their career objectives in concert with national development needs, to engage proactively in the School’s various undertakings, and to pool their collective efforts toward advancing the School’s disciplinary development, thereby jointly propelling the School to new heights of excellence.
